When the game was finally released and made available to the
public there was as much speculation about the company’s choice of name as there was about the game itself.
Said to be inspired by the idea of multi-player fun, Nintendo described its name choice by saying that the
two lower case letter “i” represented two people standing side-by-side. Some thought the name was too
childish to be taken seriously and voiced the opinion that the games sales would suffer because people would
think that the gaming system was primarily for children and young teens.
They were of course wrong and the Nintendo Wii continues to be one
